My Response to Senator John Cornyn’s Request for My Ten Dollars

Dear John,

I read your letter asking me to “chip in $10” to help spread the word that “CHINA is to blame. NOT President Trump,” for this whole corona virus shit show we got going on, and I wanted to get right back to you.

Now, I know how tempting it is to blame other folks when you’ve screwed up. Hell, we’ve probably all done that a time or two. Mom wants to know who stuffed the half-eaten Oreo between the sofa cushions. Bubba did it!

Must be even more tempting when instead of trying to blame a sticky mess on your little brother, you’re trying to shift the blame for the deaths of upwards of 90,000 Americans. Damn! I can’t even begin to imagine what that must feel like.

But here’s the thing, John — blaming the other guy (You know, that guy over there who looks a little different or comes from somewhere else.) is what little kids do. It’s not what leaders do. And even worse, John, it can get that other guy beat up or even killed. Did you know that even before you started trying to get money out of folks by lying to them about Chinese people, Texas was third in hate incidents against Asian Americans? Over in Midland, a fellow stabbed a man and his two children because he thought they were “Chinese and infecting people with the coronavirus.”

I figure you must a heard about that, John. So, what the hell do you think you’re doing telling folks that “China. Is. To. Blame.”?

Let’s think about that claim for a minute. We live in the richest country in the world, with one of the best health care systems in the world. Right? We should have stopped this virus before it even hit the ground! But instead, we have nigh on one third of the world’s cases. One third! And more dead here than in any other country in the world. It’s a god damn cluster, John!

And now let’s think some more. Who is in charge of our country, John? Is China in charge of our country? I don’t believe so. I believe it’s your buddy Donald who is President of the United States. And you, John, why you’re a U.S. Senator! Ain’t that something? I’m beginning to think Obama might have been right when he said last night that y’all “aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”

You and Donald heard about this thing way back on January 3rd. Now why didn’t y’all do something about it back then, John? Why’d you call it a “hoax” or just a bad flu bug? Hell, it took two months for y’all to do a damn thing to protect us regular folks. Let’s face it, John, you and Donald can’t find your asses with both your hands and it has cost almost 100,000 American lives — memaws and pepaws, bubbas and tias, doctors and nurses, our friends and families. Shame on you, John.

Shame. On. You.
