So true. When I talk with White people about my enslaver ancestors and my project to investigate that family history, they immediately tell me that their family did not own slaves and they are not racist. The fact is that if you are White and your family has lived in this country for a while, your ancestors--north or south--likely participated in slavery in some way. And everyone in this culture has inherited the legacy of white supremacy. I wish it were not so, but it is.
